Berlin and Potsdam information.

Berlin is an exciting and vibrant city in which to have your treasure hunt, since the removal of the Berlin Wall, which divided the city during the Cold War and beyond, there has been a policy of re-development. On your treasure hunt you will see the old and the new.

The region of Berlin has been settled for 2000 years or more, although the earliest traceable settlement directly on the site of Berlin is from the 8th century. Early in the 9th century, the name Berolina first appeared in Latin documents however it was not until the middle of the 13th century that the name Berlin is seen. The famed tree lined boulevard "Unter den Linden" was created in the mid 17th century and the symbol of Berlin, the Brandenburg Gate came about a century later.

Despite the destruction created by the Allied forces bombing during the second world war, Berlin still retains a wealth of interesting architecture and historical quarters. There are churches, castles and gardens dating back to the 17th century.

You may also consider a visit to Potsdam for your treasure or scavenger hunt - founded in the 10th century, it became the seat of the 18th century Prussian Royal Family. The fabulous Baroque palaces rival other Royal residences such as Versailles and Windsor (where we also have treasure and scavenger hunts) and the historic Dutch Quarter offers much of interest too. Potsdam was once the centre of the German film industry. There are plenty of cafes and beatuiful streets, perfectly suited to a leasurely stroll (or, more likely, the manic chase to find the answers to as many of the treasure hunt clues as possible!)

OK, so how does the Berlin treasure or scavenger hunt work? Each team is given a camera and a set of questions. There are more clues than they could possibly answer - that is where the planning comes in. Teams need to be back at the finish location on time or risk losing points for every minute late - that is wher. The marking session is great fun with teams marking their own results under the watchful eye of another team member, but don't forget the organisers decision is final (unless swayed by a bottle of red wine!!!!!!!!!!!)....these marking sessions are always good entertainment with plenty of banter, and tension as teams watch their results unfold. Results sessions are always interesting whether your team is in a pub, conference room or Continental cafe????
